What's Been Happening in April 2026

The farm store is filled with our beef, compost products, our soap and whipped tallow, and assorted sundries. It looks really cute, if you're in the area stop by. We had Open Farm Hours for a local garden group. I met some new neighbors and got to catch up with some old friends. Our April was busy restocking stores, doing compost deliveries, loading compost for farm pickups, and packing compost products.

We tagged the calves and gave Multimin 90 shots to the mommie cows and calves. Multimin contains zinc, copper, manganese, and selenium to boost cattle immunity. It's one of the things we do to keep the herd healthy. They also are given free choice Sea-90 and quality kelp. The grass is not growing because of the cool weather but they will be out grazing in a couple of weeks.

The chickens will be going out into their mobile chicken tractors soon. Mike built 2 more this winter because we are getting more layers next week. We'll be getting meat chickens the end of May or early June. The other day we got the old coop ready which is where the baby chicks will stay until they're bigger.

In the garden the asparagus and strawberries were weeded. We put some compost in the garden before we put a fence up to keep Dexter out. He's very good at digging!! The peas, lettuce and beets were planted too.

Speaking of Dexter, he was neutered on April 8th. Keeping him on a leash with the cone of shame on his neck wasn't fun. Thankfully, he seems to be calming down.
