I am selling compost in 1/2 square foot bags for $2.50 each at my booth, at the above stores (as long as they approve) and at the farm. I don't have enough available to sell in bulk yet.
This October I will be selling uncured compost in bulk for $30.00 a yard. Uncured compost has gone through the 30 day process where it is heated to at least 131 degrees for at least 3 days to kill weed seeds and pathogens and has started to stabilize for a couple of months. Uncured compost is good for garden areas that have poor texture (too much clay or too much sand), you can top dress gardens with it before winter or you can just let it sit until the following spring when it will be finished curing. It should not be used on actively growing plants as it may damage them and tie up nitrogen.
Spring of 2015 I will have cured bulk compost available for $40.00 a yard. Delivery is available - call for pricing.
Speaking of pricing, you may have noticed that the prices are slightly higher this year. There are 2 reasons for the increase.
1) I wasn't aware of all of the expenses related to producing vermicompost when I set those prices in early 2011.
2) I've invested over $35,000 into equipment so that I can produce a high quality vermicompost.
The improvements have paid off in quality. The vermicompost made with the mixer, aerated compost bays and new worm bins was tested this winter. The nitrogen level is at 2.8%, the old test showed a 1.4% level. Other nutrient levels are higher too. The test for soil food web is also posted. In 2011 I recommended adding 20% to potting soil. Now, I recommend 10% and less for light feeders such as flowers. What this means to you is that the same amount of vemicompost will go farther.
I hope all of you are able to get outside and enjoy the warm weather. One of the nice things about having such a long, cold winter and spring is that we all are so happy for the good weather. Have fun growing!
